Have You Understand About TOPIK iBT?

What is TOPIK iBT?

TOPIK iBT is still the familiar TOPIK Korean language proficiency test but is conducted on a computer. On the TOPIK exam homepage, they call this i-TOPIK exam with the form 인터넷 기반 시험 (IBT).

In 2022, Korea will organize a trial test using this format on October 20 and officially apply it in 2023.

Here are some advantages and disadvantages of this form of exam collected by "onthitopik" from Thu Hang, who took the test:

1. Advantages

– Layout: There are all 3 parts like the paper test (Listening, Reading, Writing), but all will be done on the computer.

– When taking the test, we will choose the answer directly on the test and the machine will automatically check the answer box on the right hand side of the screen. From there we save time filling in the answers to the question.

– The listening and writing sections will take a total of 110 minutes. Once completed, submit the assignment once.

– Each listening sentence will have its own listening file, so if you click on a sentence, click to listen to that sentence yourself. If you feel you can't do it, you can choose the answer and click on another question without listening. Doing so will save time doing the writing part.

– When solving a problem, there is a button to check the answer (If the question is not sure, you can review it), because on the right hand side of the answer sheet there are 3 sections: "All questions", "Checked questions", “The sentence has not been circled”

– The reading test is the most convenient because you don't have to waste time filling in answers.

2. Disadvantages

– Because this is done on a computer, it will make our eyes very tired.

– Even if you have selected an answer in the listening section, you cannot stop the listening file. You must listen to the end of the sentence before moving on to the next sentence. Can't read the next question.

– Listening part from sentences 1 to 3, listen and choose the appropriate picture. With the paper exam format, the pictures are divided into 2 columns, each column has 2 pictures, making it easy to see the overview. However, on the computer test format, the image is placed in 4 vertical panels so we have to scroll down to see all of them.

– The writing part is quite inadequate because you have to write and pull up the question at the same time.

– Type it as usual and then submit it on the computer, not with a grid like handwriting.
