1. Expenses before studying abroad in Korea

-Korean language tuition: If you don't know or have never studied Korean, you must take a basic Korean course. A course lasts about 3 months and tuition usually ranges from 4,000,000 VND to 5,000,000 VND. In addition, if you go to a city like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, etc., you will spend more on living expenses and accommodation. In short, the cost of learning Korean in Vietnam + living expenses, meals, accommodation, etc. for 3 months is about 10,000,000 VND to 13,000,000 VND.

Fees for applying to study abroad in Korea:

Documentation costs: You need to prepare documents and documents to apply for a Visa to study abroad in Korea. The cost of making that paperwork is about 500 USD, or about 11,000,000 VND.

Cost of financial proof: International students who want to study abroad in Korea will have to have a savings book from 5,000 USD to 10,000 USD and deposit it at the bank before the visa submission and interview time for at least 03 or 06 months depending on the case.

Visa and airfare costs: After completing the documents and documents, you continue to send the documents to the Embassy to apply for a Visa and pay the fee (Usually from 1,000,000 VND or more) then buy a plane ticket. Depending on the time, air tickets will have different prices. In the spring semester (around February and March), airfare will range from 5,000,000 VND to 8,000,000 VND for a one-way flight to Korea. This is the peak season because it is both the time to enroll in schools and the time when many tourists come to see cherry blossoms, so airfares are usually more expensive at this time.

2. Cost of studying in Korea after studying

Tuition:

– After coming to Korea, depending on whether you have TOPIK or not, the school will ask you to take Korean language classes for 1-2 years depending on the school, then enter the major. Tuition for 1 language course in 1 year ranges from 3000 USD to 5000 USD (About 66,000,000 VND – 115,000,000 VND)

– After learning Korean, you must take Korean language exams such as TOPIK or the Korean language proficiency test at the school and if you pass, you will be able to enter the major. Specialized tuition fees at universities will vary according to each major. Below are the fluctuating tuition fees for two types of public schools and private schools:

  • Public universities in Korea: Ranging from 2500 USD - 4000 USD/year (about 55,000,000 VND to 90,000,000 VND)
  • Private universities in Korea: Ranging from 3500 USD - 7000 USD/year (about 80,000,000 VND - 155,000,000 VND)

Living expenses (housing, food, transportation, etc.)

Rent in Korea: There are two accommodation options for international students when studying abroad in Korea:

  • In the dormitory, the amount to pay is about 500 - 700 USD/ 6 months (about 11,000,000 VND - 16,000,000 VND for 6 months). When living in a dormitory, depending on the school, most of you will share the kitchen, laundry room, etc. with your roommates on the same floor. The dormitory will have other facilities such as classrooms, gyms, etc. and depending on the dormitory, there will be different regulations to maintain order and security for the residence.
  • Alternatively, you can outsource, which will cost about 200 USD - 500 USD/ 1 month (4,400,000 VND - 10,000,000 VND/ 1 month). This is the place of residence chosen by many Vietnamese international students because it is not restricted by curfew like dormitories and the location is also convenient. This cost will be reduced if you stay in the same room with 2-3 more people.

Regarding food expenses while in Korea: If you buy your own ingredients and cook at home, on average a meal will cost you 2.5 USD to 3 USD, but if you eat out, of course the price of a meal will be double that and the cost will be higher.

Travel and other living expenses: Subway or bus fares in Korea will range from 1.5 USD to 5 USD depending on the route. In addition, there is a monthly SIM renewal fee (depending on the SIM package you buy, the cost will be different), mandatory monthly health insurance (about 50 - 100 USD/month, about 1,100,000 VND - 2,200,000 VND/ 1 month)

Therefore, in short, living expenses, accommodation, etc. in Korea will cost about 500 USD/month (ie 11,000,000 VND/month).
